2006 to Present - On to the Future

In February of 2006, our 75th Anniversary year, another new venture began when, since our headquarters are at Plattdütsche Park, the membership voted to join the Plattdütsche Volksfest Verein.  At our Bauernball in April 50- year-membership pins and Ehrenurkunden were awarded to Mary Ann Killian, John Killian, Richard Killian and Tony Graf. In May Joseph Neubauer succeeded Richard Killian as President and Gemuetlichen Enzianer dancers represented the German-American community at the Ellis Island Museum of Immigration, along with Siegfried of the famous Siegfried and Roy team.  We also proudly joined our Patenkind HSV Bavaria in celebrating their 40th Anniversary at the Holiday Inn in North Haven, CT, and then once again visitedConnecticut to attend the Kinderfest hosted by the Alpenland Tänzer in New Britain.

In July we traveled to Diessen am Ammersee to represent Gauverband Nordamerika in the Preisplatteln um den Bayerischen Löwe, which was held during the 54. Huosigau Heimattage, hosted by d’Ammertaler Diessen. The weekend began with an invitation from 1. Gauvorstand Sepp Kaindl to a Begrüssungsabend at d’Ammertaler Diessen Vereinsheim am Vogelherd, and, on Friday, a boat ride across the Ammersee to Kloster Andechs.  That evening, in the Festzelt, we joined a large contingent of Gäste aus dem USA in performing the Gauplattler.

Preisplatteln on Saturday also gave us the opportunity to greet members of our Stammverein, Almrausch Regensburg, who represented the Oberpfälzer Gau.  Einzelplatteln took place first, at several different locations within the Festzelt.  When the Einzelplatteln was completed, Gruppenpreisplatteln began on the main stage.  Gemuetlichen Enzianer had drawn number 825 which meant the 25th Verein scheduled to dance.  As soon as the Gruppenpreisplatteln was complete, awarding of prizes began - we were very pleased to come in 4th place.

Sunday began with the Festgottesdienst in the Marienmünster, after which we processed to the Festzelt.  The many participating Vereine joined together once again for the Festzug through Diessen in the afternoon, and upon returning to the Festzelt, continued with their Ehrentänze. Gemuetlichen Enzianer danced the Allgäuer Plattler, and enjoyed the remaining hours with an informal get-together.

Autumn once again brought the Steuben Parade, and Whiteface Oktoberfest.  In November we gathered at Westbury Manor to celebrate our 75th Anniversary. The evening was highlighted by the membership awarding the title of Ehrenpräsident to Richard Killian.

In 2007 at our annual Bauernball, Barbara Maier Mietzner and Linda Eberhardt Schrimpf joined the ranks of 50-year members, receiving pins and Ehrenurkunden

At the end of June, we traveled to Hershey, PA for the 21. Gaufest, hosted by Edelweiss Reading.  The festive weekend brought a 2nd Place finish in Preisplattln and the Meistpreis for having a total of 114 tickets (a three-way tie which was decided by the distance the club traveled).  The summer ended with our traditional Labor Day gathering at Lido Beach.

The Peekskill Oktoberfest was once again on our fall agenda, as well as the 50th Steuben Parade and the Oompah Fest. In October a large group of Gemuetlichen Enzianer attended the 50th Anniversary of our fellow Vereinigten Bayern Schuhplattler club, Edelweiss Passaic.
